Giant dinosaur skeleton found in Utah

A multi-institutional team of scientists this week reports the discovery of a giant new dinosaur in Utah, Nothronychus graffami, which stood 13 feet tall and had nine-inch-long hand claws that looked like scythes.

Its skeleton, described in the current issue of Proceedings of the Royal Society B, represents the most complete remains ever excavated of a therizinosaur, meaning “reaper lizard.” It is one of only three such dinosaurs ever found in North America.

Now we are are waiting for one in Portland… yes we are close to Utah :-)

39th Ave. now Cesar E. Chavez Blvd.

Despite opposition from businesses, 39th Avenue on Wednesday was renamed Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard by the Portland City Council.

The council voted 5-0 for the change, ending a two-year effort to rename a city street for the Mexican American farm worker and labor leader who died in 1993.

Businesses objected to the change, saying it would unnecessarily cost money during an economic downturn. (which is true - got to reprint stationary, business signs etc.)

Kindle 2 has a design flaw - lawsuit says

Amazon prides itself on customer service, but it now finds itself the target of a $5 million class action lawsuit because it failed to replace a Kindle 2 that a customer alleges was damaged by Amazon’s own $30 protective case. We have to now see how this goes… do you see this problem with your own Kindle 2?

Google voice goes mobile

Starting today Google Voice calls can be made directly  from your mobile phones. Google  plans to release two mobile applications to make that possible, one that runs on Blackberry phones and one that runs on Android phones.

Apple tablet rumored to be priced @ $800

Rumor has it that Apple might be close to releasing its own tablet computer. A source tells me that such a product has been developed. Pricing seems to be steep from today’s standards… $800… are you going to buy it?

Microsoft plans a free version of Office

On Monday, Microsoft said it would offer a free version of its popular Office software suite that would run on the Internet. Looks like this will be in direct response to Google Apps. The war begins…

Office 2010 features look strong

Early technical preview seems like Office 2010 will be very strong with web integration of features. We would look for easy integration of blogs with Microsoft Word. Also, expect a lot of Silverlight all over the place and a lot of focus on cloud computing and services

China overtakes US to become world’s largest auto market

China has for the first time overtaken the United States as the world’s largest auto market with sales of locally-made vehicles surging 17.7 percent to 6.1 million units. Just makes me wonder what all of this does to the climate …
